Siri, Google Voice, Apple’s iPhone 5 fingerprint innovation, Samsung’s Galaxy S4 fingerless features, and the 41 megapixels inbuilt camera of the Nokia Lumia 1020 are among the smartphone innovations we are enjoying now.

Flexible-screen smartphones promise to be the next mega innovations since iPhone pioneered the touchscreen technology.

The recently released Samsung Galaxy Round boasts a curved screen. LG announced early October that mass production of a 6-inch OLED flexible screen smartphone will begin next year. Apple is also in this race although no official statement regarding when it will roll out an iPhone with such technology has been released.

Flexible screens will be made from wafers, not glass. As such, they will be thinner and lighter. Developers claim these screens will not only be bendable, but unbreakable. One can only imagine the many daring smartphone designs this brings, as opposed to the conventional rectangular designs.

Besides what has been stated already, there is no clear direction regarding how this technology will benefit the smartphone industry. However, it promises to spearhead smart-watches, smart-glasses and other wearable gadgets into the limelight.
