Battlefield 4 runs on an improved Frostbite 3 game engine
providing expansive Maps and the usual detailed graphics made famous by its
predecessor. High-packed action and an arsenal of firepower are guaranteed in
BF4 as the focus is more on squad play. The game borrows ideas for an improved squad
play with attack commands as seen in similar games in the genre. In addition,
the increased fire power is made possible by ammo stocks present in locations throughout
the game; an idea learnt from other game makers. The planes were absent but the
Tank stayed!
Now the story…………..
The player is thrust in an ongoing war between the Chinese
and Russians and sees the player undertake missions as a squad and quite surprisingly
more of as a squad leader; a drastic change from the predecessors whereby the
player is guided through the missions by a leader. The story is compelling but
a bit confusing from the start; there is a notorious enemy who surprisingly
remains unseen throughout the game! It took a while to come to grips with the story;
unfortunately the gameplay is short, less than the predecessor and that is not
surprising coming from the Swedes. This is where COD differentiates itself from
BF; the storyline. It’s true the future of gaming is multiplayer, that’s where
the goldmine is, but a compelling story makes it stand out and that’s what the
makers of COD are hoping to garner with its release of COD: Ghosts.
Notwithstanding, there are elements in the gameplay to
ensure that the characters are made to evoke the human endeavours of spirit,
sympathy, courage and more; a good character development to ensure perceive the
characters are not perceived as
“mean-machines”
