Sony have finally taken a dive into the “mini” market with
their latest handset - the Xperia Z1 Compact. As the name implies, the Z1
compact is a smaller iteration of Sony’s successful Xperia Z1 but while Samsung
and HTC stripped their minis of most of the firepower of their bigger bad-ass
siblings, Sony decided to squeeze as much of the juice of the Z1 into the Z1
Compact. The result: an unquestionably brilliant handset.
The Xperai Z1 is a great phone but for people with small
hands or who just don’t like large screens (for whatever reason), Sony has
provided a product that will be sure to reel you in. The Xperia Z1 Compact
provides lots of power and performance, breaking free of the shackles of the
low-powered minis and is totally worth its €550 price tag

Weighing in at 137g, the Z1 Compact is 32g lighter than its
big brother but still a bit hefty compared to other power-packed handsets (Apple’s
iPhone 5S weighs only 112g). The shrink means the screen has been inevitably
reduced to a 4.3” panel with a 720p resolution at 340 pixels-per-inch, and while
this may seem like a downgrade, the switch to an IPS display means that colours
are a lot more vibrant on the Z1 Compact.
In the belly of the beast lies a 2.2 GHz quad-core
Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GBs of RAM and 16GBs of internal storage which you
can choose to expand via the microSD slot if you so desire; all quite similar
to the Z1. More impressively, Sony managed to retain the astounding 20.7
megapixel G Lens snapper, all the while keeping things nice and waterproof as is
custom with the Z series.
The Z1 compact also comes with more variety with 5 different
colors to choose from; black, white, pink, lime and yellow. It will ship with
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but Sony has assured that it will receive the Kit-Kat update.
