At the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference held two days ago, a lot was on display. Mainstream was the launching of the next generation of apple interface: the iOS 8. Here are the highlights:

Third-party app developers should be smiling now. Apple has made a provision for new functionalities within the iOS apps. Thus, third-party keyboard alternatives are now supported.
The updated Siri comes with 22 new dictation languages and Shazam song recognition.
With Family Sharing feature, iOS 8 users can form a circle for easy exchange of movies, music, documents, etc. For the sake of kids, it includes a security feature. The feature is health oriented too; it includes the Health and HealthKit tools.

The QuickType feature offers word suggestions as the iOS 8 user types. This is not new to android users though.
The email functionality in iOS 8 has a facelift. It has been restructured with a few swipe functions for marking as unread emails, for deleting emails, etc.
Apple has provided a Continuity feature for iOS and Mac devices. This feature enables one apple device to be operated remotely by another apple device. For instance, an iPhone device can forward text messages, documents, and phone calls to the receiving end of a Mac. This is an exciting feature.
Apple’s iCloud Drive and Mail Drop, as you can guess, are just like other cloud storage mediums.
SWIFT
The new programming language Swift, developed by Apple was introduced. According to Apple, ''Swift is an innovative new programming language for Cocoa and Cocoa Touch. Writing code is interactive and fun, the syntax is concise yet expressive, and apps run lightning-fast. Swift is ready for your next iOS and OS X project — or for addition into your current app — because Swift code works side-by-side with Objective-C.''

MAC OS X YOSEMITE
Apple’s desktop operating system Mac OS X 10.10, aka Yosemite, was also unveiled at the event. The new Mac OS looks like the iOS 7 interface. With the continuity feature highlighted already, inter-operability and forwarding of data comes alive.
METAL API
The Metal API was also ushered by Apple at the event. It is speculated that Metal enhances rendering capability exponentially, about ten times. From experience, only time holds the truth this assertion. If it is as good as it’s been speculated, Apple can entice many developers. Who wouldn’t want to be associated with this brand??! The incentive is that Apple is already an industry giant with high profitability.
